Beat Oprah

Last nights speed workout call for Fartleks (my fave) and since Lola had a social engagement, I had to channel my inner dog without her.

This morning Deanne and I were looking forward to yoga at the new Park at Wrigley (because we don’t spend enough time together) but woke up to a thunderstorm. So yoga and rolling happened indoors instead — boo.

IMG_2018.JPG

And for the most exciting news ever. . . (drum roll please) after over a year (yep, you read that right) of pro and con lists I FINALLY bit the bullet and bought a Garmin. It felt like fate when I found one of my finalists on sale (and got an extra discount from my roommate!). So now I wait like a kid at Christmas for the mail and prepare to kick Oprah’s butt once and for all.

P.S. Apparently I share this dream with several others because when I googled Oprah’s time, the below (and so many more) popped up.

Running, Eating, and Getting Older

With the marathon 32 days away (but seriously, who is counting anyways) and event season now in full swing, this is going to be my motto for the next couple of months.

Coffee

I’ve pretty much given up trying to remember everything I’ve done for these posts (you’re welcome) so here are a few high (and low) lights.

My brother and sister got older so we celebrated. Well, they celebrated and I chaperoned and napped per usual.

Birthdays

I snuggled up with this guy.

Who also happens to be my date to my sisters wedding. Clearly I’ll have the most handsome date.

Meghan and I ran a lot.

Our events team met in Bethesda and came up with some pretty great ideas and welcomed Tom to the group (naturally over cupcakes).

We went to my sister’s shower in Breese, IL. Yep, that’s a real place (Google it) and they have cows.

Oh and there are people there too like these goons.

And the 3 of us matched without planning it.

I ran 13 miles (this view never gets old).

Then Deanne and I sweat our way through our first (amazing and successful) event of the season.

Saturday was a whirlwind. I ran 20 miles and ended up with some pretty awesome chafing which is totally not cute.

For some reason this is a real sign at Mariano’s (so you know someone had to have done it before).

I turn 28 in a couple of weeks and while I joke a lot about getting old I’m really not that freaked out about it. I have a pretty awesome life so far. My family is amazing and supportive and only annoy me like 16% of the time, my friends are pretty cool and still put up with me, and I have the best job, co-workers and volunteers a girl could ask for. So if this is what 28 is going to be like, then I think I’m going to be okay. Not to mention Fall is just around the corner which means my favorite. . .

New Office, Same Cool People

So Friday we moved and it was much easier this time around (check out these goons pretending like they’re doing stuff).

We got into work, packed up our stuff and we were done by 10:30 am which is a clear sign that brunch was in order. A few of us headed over to Sunny Side Up and I had a hard time deciding between the berry french toast and the french toast with walnuts, bananas and chocolate sauce (rough life right?) so naturally I asked the waitress to throw it all together. Best decision I’ve made in a long time.

Friday Brunch

Brunch turned into Friday Funday which lasted way past my bedtime.

Around 2 am Deanne and Laura conned me into going to Taco Bell in Wrigleyville which is filled with all types of animals and I almost ate this (but came to my senses and didn’t, phew).

Saturday was beautiful out for my long run.

Sunday Deanne and I went to Yoga at the new Lole store on Southport. We are pictured below in my favorite pose: savasana.

And then I attempted to make oatmeal balls with oats, blueberries, coconut and honey and they tasted good but kind of fell apart.

Tuesday morning Meghan and I celebrated our 1 year anniversary with a romantic sunrise run (otherwise known as marathon training).

I have a feeling Laura is going to be one of the top cheerers at the Bayshore Marathon. She’s already started looking for signs to make. I suggested this one as it seems most accurate.

It’s National Volunteer Appreciation Week and you can check out my LUNGevity blog post about it later this week.

Bayshore Marathon countdown. . . 38 days!

Work, Life and Lung Cancer Awareness Month

I read an article this morning on the interwebs called “10 Unexpected Truths About Running a Marathon” and all 10 are totally spot on including number 4: You’ll Hate Running”. For a couple days after you finish a marathon you miss running and having a schedule so you work towards getting back to it. But somewhere between a week to 2 weeks after that feeling dies down and you’re over it completely. Aside from a chick’s night run last week (which is a workout but really more of a girls night hang out), a lunch break run for my sanity’s sake (pic below) and a Shred class I haven’t really felt like running.

Lunch Sanity Run

Unfortunately (I blame science) I still have to workout if I want to continue eating at the rate that I do (and keep up some level of sanity). So starting tomorrow it’s back to yoga sculpt at Core Power AND I am going to attempt kick boxing (feel free to laugh, it’ll be a sight for sure). Stay tuned for some scary stories. . .

The past week was kind of a blur but I did get sushi at my favorite place with this girl (sorry Leanne, we miss you) and a bunch of other stuff that I don’t even remember anymore.

Sushi Din

Friday my flight to our Kansas City event got cancelled . . three times. Thankfully I made it out first thing Saturday morning in enough time to sport this amazing orange t-shirt and hang out with my fabulous committee (and this little one).

Orange is starting to grow on me which is a good thing since all of our volunteer shirts are that color.

Sunday morning bright and early we headed over to Liberty Memorial for a great event day (check out this view).

It was a little windy (you can barely tell right?) And for some reason, someone thought it would be a good idea to give me a bullhorn (obviously he quickly realized it wasn’t necessary).

Despite the wind and cold we had a fantastic day and I’m so happy that I was able to be there to see everyone and be a part of the event!

Sunday I flew back and went to see the crazy guy tight rope across two buildings in Chicago without a net and blindfolded.

Tight Rope

I’m sort of glad I went to see it but I probably should have thought my plan through a little better because I ended up pushing through crowds with my suitcase to find my fwends and by the time I got there I was a little crabby and kind of got into a little bit of a scuffle with a girl standing behind us (yes, I got into an argument with someone) and I felt really really bad afterwards. Because she was totally wrong (seriously, she was, I’m not just saying that) BUT it isn’t her fault that I was tired and hungry and had a suitcase with me like a dingus and super crabby. But in my attempt to explain manners to her I realized that I wasn’t using mine and I was raised better than that and I’m really sorry. Anyways, it was a little chilly so I stole this hat (it looks better on me anyways) and all was right in the world (oh yeah, and I had pizza so that helped). You can see above my eye where someone’s suitcase hit my head on the plane when they were getting it down ugh.

Watching Tight Rope

This week is super crazy both at work and in real life (I think there’s a difference between those two?) but with a ton of great things. We’re doing margarita Monday tonight since it’s Beverly’s last week (although you don’t really need a reason for that), Wednesday is the Fleet Feet Fashion Show (yay) that a few of us make into a girls night every year because we’re really, really cool. Then a comedy show Friday! We have a ton of events going on this weekend including Breathe Deep Busse Woods that I’m going to Saturday morning and then Fall Benefit that I’ll be at Saturday night! I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to participate or not (because running and I could use a little break) but I’m definitely going to the Hot Chocolate on Sunday with friends. Thankfully, I’m an awesome cheerleader so if I don’t run, everyone’s in for a treat.

And, it’s Lung Cancer Awareness Month so spread the word whether it’s through social media, word of mouth or through cake pops like Beverly’s.

Fall Begins. . .

With the fall event season in full swing now and the marathon just 25 days away (but seriously, who is counting anyways) life has gotten seriously busy. Here’s a quick rundown of what’s been going on the past couple weeks:

On September 4th I did the Super Bears Shuffle 5K with co-workers and got an awesome time. It started out near Soldier Field and fireworks went off as we ran through this:

bears 1

Here I am at the finish (check out that time) with about 40 gallons of sweat pouring off of me.

bears 2

This guy was in town just in time to join us and beat me.

Here is LUNGevity representing before the race started (the after photo wasn’t so pretty).

LUNGevity at Bears 5K

Then Friday night it was pouring, you know, like it keeps doing in Chicago and I swam home from the brown line.

Chicago rain

Since the weather stunk and some of us (okay just me) had to get up early the next day to run 20 miles, we naturally decided to have a wine and game night in. Here I am being the Prettiest Princess (don’t get too excited Grandma, that ring is fake) and as you can tell, game night at our apartment is clearly a formal thing.

Game night

Saturday morning I woke up and ran 20 miles. Thankfully the weather was beautiful and the humidity calmed down for the 3.5 hours it took me to get through my run.

20 Mile run view

This is what you look like after you run 20 miles. . .delirious.

20 mile after

Saturday night (after sleeping and watching football all day) we headed out to Epic to celebrate birthdays and got this view of the city.

Sunday Meghan and I woke up early to meet Deanne at Fleet Feet in Lincoln Square and do the History Run (so fun, you should try it).

History Run

And then we went to Flat Top and ate a ton like this:

Oatmeal

and this:

French Toast

oh and this:

Omlete

As if we didn’t eat enough on Sunday, someone (cough Beverly) brought in cupcakes to work Monday (thankfully I run roughly one billion miles a week).

cupcakes

Then Monday night we did a little LUNGevity bonding at trivia and we won! Thursday we did a girls night at Bottles and Bottega and if you haven’t been, you should definitely try it!

Bottles and Bottega girls night toast

and as we painted we drank wine and ate all of this:

Food Bottles and Bottega

and now we will obviously be quitting our day jobs.

On Friday, Runners World really nailed marketing on the head:

Good joke RW

Saturday I did 12 miles and then went shopping with Meghan where we saw (at several stores) 4 different husbands sitting on the couch waiting as their wives shopped. What are you doing?! It’s the weekend, go home and watch football!

After shopping Meghan got a little insider view into my job (so weird and awesome) when we picked up these bananas for the event on Sunday.

bananas

Then we went over to Jeni’s (not for the 3rd time this week) and got these:

Jenis

As if I didn’t eat enough we went to Frasca Saturday night for dinner and got pizza (eaten before a photo could be taken) and this:

Frasca Brus

and these brussel sprouts covered in parm and bacon that I consider to be my vegetable source:

Fras brusee

and then obviously a cookie skillet because you can’t go to Jeni’s twice in one day right?

Cookie Skillet

Sunday I woke up bright and early because it’s event season! I attended Breathe Deep Lake Arlington and got this little nugget out of bed to help me (sisters are the best, everyone should get one).

10404410_3777149704381_4841853004782347688_n (1)

The event was a success and I am so thankful for Anna and her mom coming to help (best co-workers ever)!

10622710_335980059905009_4314047059419955338_n

The past couple weeks at our office have been a little hectic to say the least. With fall event season starting, LUNGevity is busy busy but we also had a few glitches with our server that made some of us look like this at 6am.

sad office morning

Spending the morning at the event though makes all of the hard work and frustration worth it when you see everything come together. Also, this is not the worst view for a workday:

LA view

After the event I dropped Charley off and got to hang out with my dad for a little while. He informed me that he will be taking the day off after the marathon because you know, spectating is a tough job.

Last night Meghan and I went to a 30 minute spin class which was just enough to be considered cross training without making me want cry. Then we went to a 30 minute yoga and foam rolling class which was awkward and painful (but definitely worth it the day after). We were tired and sore from work and spinning so by the time we got to the foam rolling part we were delirious and a little disruptive. There is no photographic evidence of this class, probably for the best.

After work today I’m doing my LAST 20 mile run before the marathon– woot! So for anyone who sees me carbo loading in my office all day it’s because I HAVE to. No more waking up super early on the weekends for this girl!

20 miles

and if you haven’t donated to Team LUNGevity yet, here’s your chance!

TL

This weekend I turn 27 (it also happens to be Taco fest in Lakeview which I don’t think is a coincidence) and I thought I would be freaked out about it but so far my life is prettay prettay great. I have an amazing family that loves and supports me and only annoys me about 20% of the time. I have friends that rock and somehow still like me after years of knowing me. I love my job and have the best co-workers and volunteers a girl could ask for. So if this is what 27 looks like. . I’ll take it!

For the next couple months though, this will be my motto:

Coffee

Fundraisers, Family, Friends and Fun Runs!

After work on Friday I headed over to Nisei Lounge on Sheffield for our Team LUNGevity Fundraiser. From 6-9pm all tips made by our fabulous charity bartenders, Deanne and Rejane, were donated back to LUNGevity! Co-workers, friends and family joined in and drank, played giant Jenga and most importantly tipped for this great cause! At the end of the night we totaled the tips and made $374 — not bad for a night of drinking and hanging out!

unnamed

Saturday morning I went to hot yoga sculpt to get the most out of the last few days of my membership and then headed out for a quick run (yay for Fun Run May) before brunch with my friends! The run was a 4 mile to the lake front and back and the weather was fantastic (read: shorts and a tank)! Afterwards I showered quickly and headed over to Mercadito for brunch with Jenny and Leanne (who I haven’t seen since she moved to LA in January)! We sat outside, drank mimosas and caught up! When we finished up with brunch I went over to Kristin’s, who recently bought a condo, to get a tour, chat and help unpack. And to make her fabulous life change even better. . .she’s only a mile away from me now so I had a nice walk home after in the sun!

May 10 brunch

Sunday I had plans to go home and spend the day with my family so I went out for a quick run in the morning. I ran over Roosevelt Bridge, down the lakefront path, circled around and then headed back south on Michigan (stopping to do some stairs on my way)! Then we went home to celebrate Mother’s Day and BBQ with the world’s greatest grandma! From the photo below you can tell she clearly loves me more than my sister. .

combo from May 11 run Pic with grandma and charley mothers day

Overall it was a great weekend! I got to see friends, family and get in a few fun runs in the nice weather!

P.S. EatBreatheRun now has a Facebook page! Like HERE!
